I Thought I Was Entitled To a Christmas Bonus. I Was Wrong
The hard truth slapped me in the face
Today my boss told me I wasn’t getting a Christmas bonus, so I threw a fit.
That’s no joke.
I totally threw the biggest fit ever. Full of outrage, cursing, and sighs of dismay.
The catch? It was all done in my head — and most definitely not to my boss’s face.
I know this sounds incredibly entitled and selfish, but I thought this Christmas bonus was sort of a given.
The company I work for has said time and time again that this is their best year ever, financially speaking. That’s a major win, given we’re in the middle of a pandemic.
So if the company is doing really well, shouldn’t its employees and contractors (me!) benefit as well?
I thought so, which is why I started ranting to my coworker, friends, and family about this harsh injustice.
I was searching for validation in my indignation — and I got it tenfold. I was greeted with responses from family and friends, like:
“That’s not right!”
“What the f*ck!”
“I hope you told them exactly how you feel!”
“That’s terrible!”
